Safety Alert – Heatwave NSW, VIC, WA, SA, QLD

SAFETY ALERT

NSW, VIC, WA, SA & QLD HEATWAVE

The BOM has issued heatwave warnings for all states excluding NT. As we know a heatwave can impact a lot of people and a lot of trades who are working outside and even indoors.

All trades will be notified via text and email of this alert.

This alert is for the next 4 days Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th February 2023.

NSW

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures in the low to mid thirties with minimum temperatures in the mid to high teens over the south coast of NSW. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to ease by the end of the week.
Locations likely to be impacted include Batemans Bay, Bega and Eden

VIC

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures generally in the low to mid thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to low twenties. Heatwave conditions will ease with the arrival of a cooler change at the end of the week.
Locations likely to be impacted include Melbourne, Leongatha, Moe, Mallacoota, Traralgon and Warragul.

SA

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures in the low forties with minimum temperatures in the low to mid-twenties for north-western SA. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist until at least early next week.

WA

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures in the low to mid-forties with minimum temperatures generally in the mid to high twenties. Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue over parts of WA into next week, with isolated areas of Extreme heatwave conditions possible over western inland parts of the Kimberley and adjacent parts over the next few days. Locations likely to be impacted include Karratha, Port Hedland, and Warburton.

QLD

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures generally in the high thirties to low forties with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties.

No further warnings will be issued for this event, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings issued if necessary.

Safety Advice 

Please watch the conditions are they may change very quickly so to prevent heat related illness.

Know signs/symptoms of heat-related illnesses; monitor yourself and co-workers.
Block out direct sun or other heat sources.
Use cooling fans/air-conditioning, rest regularly.
Drink lots of water; about 1 cup every 15 minutes.
Wear lightweight, light coloured, loose-fitting clothes.
Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or heavy meals.

Please watch for Symptoms of hear stress and Stroke are.

 Headaches, dizziness, light headedness, or fainting.
 Weakness and moist skin.
 Mood changes such as irritability or confusion.
 Upset stomach or vomiting.
 Dry, hot skin with no sweating.
 Mental confusion or losing consciousness.
 Seizures or convulsions.
