Safety Alert – Queensland Heatwave

SAFETY ALERT – QUEENSLAND HEATWAVE

The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a Heatwave from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th of February.

Weather Situation

Maximum temperatures in the low to mid-thirties are forecast on Friday and Saturday, with minimum temperatures in the low to mid-twenties. Heatwave conditions are expected to ease after the weekend.

Locations likely to be impacted include Bundaberg, Gladstone, Gympie, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Mackay, Maroochydore, Maryborough, Yeppoon and the Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Districts.

 

Please watch for Symptoms of heat stress and Stroke are:

  • Headaches, dizziness, light headedness or fainting.
  • Weakness and moist skin.
  • Mood changes such as irritability or confusion.
  • Upset stomach or vomiting.
  • Dry, hot skin with no sweating.
  • Mental confusion or losing consciousness.
  • Seizures or convulsions.

Please watch the conditions as they may change very quickly so to prevent heat related illness:

  • Know signs/symptoms of heat-related illnesses; monitor yourself and co-workers.
  • Block out direct sun or other heat sources.
  • Use cooling fans/air-conditioning; rest regularly.
  • Drink lots of water; about 1 cup every 15 minutes.
  • Wear lightweight, light coloured, loose-fitting clothes.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or heavy meals.

Heat stress and or Stroke can occur after hours so monitor for symptoms & Call 000 in case of emergency.
